A graduate of Florida A&M University with a doctorate of pharmacy, Devan Patel has served as the president and chief executive officer of Medizenx for nearly a decade. Outside of his professional, pharmacist-related pursuits, Devan Paten has volunteered with A Kids Place Foster Home in Tampa, Florida, since 2017.
A 60-bed, multi-service residential facility, A Kid’s Place strives to keep families together by housing sibling groups in foster care. Located on 5 acres of land in Brandon, Florida, A Kid’s Place comprises five houses that provide services for children from birth to age 18 who have been removed from their homes. Rather than separating siblings and sending them to individual foster families, A Kid’s Place focuses on keeping sibling groups intact until more suitable, long-term placement can be found.
A Kid’s Place campus was built to resemble a neighborhood, utilizing a “house parent” model that places parents in each home to create functional family units. In addition to housing, A Kid’s Place provides educational support and on-site enrichment activities such as arts and crafts and outdoor play. Since 2009, the facility has served more than 1,520 foster children.
